Understanding Galaxy Metal & Infrastructure Migration

Galaxy operates on a hybrid infrastructure designed to maximize performance and build speeds. As of late 2025, Galaxy defaults to Galaxy Metal, our state-of-the-art bare metal infrastructure.

What is Galaxy Metal?

Galaxy Metal is our proprietary infrastructure layer that replaces traditional virtualization overhead with direct hardware access. This architecture provides:

  • Faster Pipelines: Builds and deploys occur up to 3x faster.
  • Performance: No virtualization "noise," ensuring your app gets the raw compute power it needs.
  • Security: Orchestrated with enterprise-grade security protocols.

Migration & Maintenance

We continuously upgrade our infrastructure to ensure reliability.

  • Automatic Updates: Migrations to newer infrastructure generations (like Galaxy Metal) are automatic.
  • Zero Downtime: Our orchestration ensures that your application remains available during these backend transitions.

AWS & Compliance Requirements

While Galaxy Metal is the standard for all plans (Free, Essentials, and Professional), we understand that certain enterprise compliance frameworks or technical dependencies may strictly require AWS hosting.

If your application requires remaining on AWS infrastructure:

  1. Contact Support via the chat inside the Galaxy dashboard.
  2. Email us at support@galaxycloud.app.

You can find more details in our Data Processing Agreement (DPA).

FAQ

After the migration, will my Meteor app continue in the same region?

Galaxy Metal will not change your instance's location. Your apps will continue running in the same region throughout the entire migration process. Galaxy Metal represents an infrastructure upgrade within our existing regions, so you'll benefit from improved performance, enhanced security, and superior reliability while your geographic placement remains unchanged.

Will my Meteor app use more or fewer resources with Galaxy Metal?

Your app's resource allocation will not change. Galaxy Metal is an infrastructure upgrade, not a change to your plan or specifications. Your application will continue using the same number of containers, memory, and compute power you currently have.

Will there be a cost increase with Galaxy Metal?

No, Galaxy Metal will not result in additional costs. This is a standard infrastructure upgrade for all customers. Your costs will remain exactly as they are currently.

Will Free plans continue to use Galaxy Metal?

Yes, Galaxy Metal is the new standard for all plans, including Free, Essentials, and Professional. All Galaxy users will benefit from faster builds and deploys, enhanced security with enterprise-grade orchestration, superior performance with direct hardware access, and the same reliability with zero downtime during migration. This is a universal infrastructure improvement.

When will my Meteor app be migrated to Galaxy Metal?

Starting, at late 2025, the migration schedule depends on your plan. Free apps will be migrated by December 15th, Essentials apps by December 31st, and Professional apps by January 31st. The migration is gradual and automatic, and you don't need to do anything. Your apps will continue running normally without interruptions throughout the entire process.

What are the real benefits for my Meteor applications with Galaxy Metal?

The benefits are substantial: builds and deploys will be up to 3x faster, reducing waiting time; you'll experience enhanced security with enterprise-grade infrastructure orchestration; your applications will have superior performance through direct hardware access without virtualization overhead; and you'll maintain the same reliability you already know, with zero downtime during migration. Galaxy Metal has already been successfully running our databases and new webapps for over a year, so this is a proven, battle-tested infrastructure.
